2010 Rasa ‘The Lyricist’ Riesling

If you ever find yourself lucky enough to be in Walla, Walla, Wa., you’ll soon be overwhelmed by the number of truly outstanding wineries. There simply isn’t enough time.

rasaRasa should be on anyone’s short list, however, as they make some of the best wine in the area. Also, the owners are incredibly nice.

But to the wine at hand: This is simply the best North American riesling I’ve ever had. It’s much fatter than the racy New York state bottles I like a lot, and has a touch of sweetness, but boy oh boy is there a lot going on here.

This has the honeyed fruit of a dessert wine, but the petrol nose that lets you know you’re drinking riesling. Plus, there’s so much delicious acidity that it goes great with all manner of food. We drank it with takeout sushi.

And, while none of the Rasa bottles are inexpensive, at $30, this is a straight-up bargain. Fantastic.
