NV Patrick Bottex Vin du Bugey-Cerdon La Cueille

bugeyHow excited was I to open this wine? I selected it as the “Champagne” to pop upon the birth of our child.

Compared to the kid’s birth, it was a bit of a letdown, but still a very nice bottle. This is one of those bottles you want to have on hand for your wine geek friends, as even they probably don’t see a lot of sparkling gamay and poulsard. Don’t waste this on Aunt Edna.

But if you did open it for Edna, she’d like it, as it’s not all that complicated a drink. Fizzy, slightly sweet and smelling and tasting strongly of strawberries, this could pass for a cheap (but tasty) cava rose. A bit of yeast and funk complicates things in a good way, though.

Not something I’d call a screaming deal at $20, but no complaints either. Try it.
