2009 Marronaia ‘Intenso’ Sangiovese

Intenso-RossoHere’s a simple, but not simplistic, completely unoaked sangiovese made from organic grapes.

It tastes completely unmanipulated, just high-quality, sweet and high-acid sangiovese grapes. It’s cherries, with some cinnamon and even something that I think of as cedar, all wrapped up to a fantastically drinkable food wine.

Here in Virginia, when we visit certain wineries, they often pass of their weakest wine as a great “pizza wine” or “spaghetti wine.” Because what I want with my pasta is a crappy, half-assed wine.

This, on the other hand, is a $15 labor of love (I’m just going to presume the winemaker loves this wine…) that you’d be hard pressed to surpass as an accompaniment to your pizza, pasta, or whatever else you want to throw its way.
