2011 Duboeuf Jean Descombes Morgon

morgonPeople besmirch Duboeuf wine because he’s the nouveau king or whatever, but his Cru labeled wines are frequently great bargains.

This Morgon, from the light and fresh 2011 vintage, is … light and fresh but exceptionally good. It’s not something to get too excited about past a certain price point, but at the $11 or so that I paid, it’s a back the truck up sort of purchase. (I, of course, bought exactly one bottle.)

But it tastes like fresh berries and cool minerals and has none of the banana funk you sometimes get in cheaper Bojo. Major QPR win.
